Dorrance Dance Comes to Boston!

by Ryan Casey

Since 1997, Dance Inn Productions has produced an annual celebration of National Tap Dance Day (May 25th, the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson), honoring luminaries like Dianne Walker, Brenda Bufalino, Jimmy Slyde, Dean Diggins and Heather Cornell with exciting performances, master classes, jams, workshops, and community events.

This year's celebration brings Dorrance Dance to the Regent Theatre on Friday, May 4th, for the company's first full-length concert!

In the early spring of 2011, Michelle Dorrance - international tap sensation and "Stomp" cast member - founded Dorrance Dance / New York and won a 2011 Bessie award for "blasting open our notion of tap" in her work presented in the sold-out "A Shared Evening" with Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards at Danspace, NYC. Dorrance Dance has also recently performed at Jacob's Pillow, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (a part of the Chicago Human Rhythm Project), The Barcelona Tap Festival, The DC Tap Festival and Beantown Tap Festival's "On Tap!" to rave reviews.

This upcoming concert will feature a world renowned cast of extraordinary rhythm-makers: Megan Bartula, Chris Broughton, Elizabeth Burke, Ryan P. Casey, Michelle Dorrance, Hannah Heller, Josh Hilberman, Carson Murphy, Mishay Petronelli, Claudia Rahardjanoto, Demi Remick, Tamii Sakurai, Elena Steponaitis, Caleb Teicher, and Nicholas Young… with special guests the Legacy Dance Company and local Boston tap celebrities.

As part of the festivities, there also master classes for all ages, a tap jam, a shim-sham flash mob, outdoor showcase, and more!

Get your tickets, sign up for classes, and join us for a great weekend of TAP!!
